READ YOUR POEM EVERY DAY

I know your father thinks you won't understand it, but I think he's wrong about that. You understand 100 times more than anyone realizes. Anyway, you like songs even when you don't know what the words mean (Birdy says she loves me) and this is like a song.

So ask your father to read it to you every day until you can say it along with him and when I come to your house I'll draw pictures for the poem!

I LOVE YOU, LEO.

(Here's the poem again)

LEISURE
William H. Davies

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows,

No time to see, when woods we pass
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass,

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance,

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

IT'S TUESDAY!!

TIME FOR ANOTHER PHOTO QUIZ:

1. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? (WHAT GUY IS DOING WHAT TO WHAT OTHER GUY?)

2. DID YOU EVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS?

3. HOW DID IT TASTE?

IF YOU ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS, YOU WILL GET SOME BOOKS AND OTHER THINGS IN THE MAIL IN A WEEK OR SO (POST OFFICE WILLING).

(YOU CAN ANSWER ME BY EMAIL UNTIL I LEARN HOW TO ACTIVATE THE COMMENTS)

HERE'S A POEM FOR YOU, LEO

DADDY OR MOMMY CAN READ IT TO YOU. IT'S IN A BIG BOOK I GOT YESTERDAY:

(First, a note to your fatheh:

Mafs, I think this poem is one of the good ones in this really good (huge!) book I got yesterday. Leo can understand little parts of it if you show them to him, but that's not important. (You can show him the stars in the water when you go to the sea and the sun sparkles in it) What's important is that you read it to him over and over and he hears the rhythm and gets to know it. I'll send you an email with the introduction to this book that convinced me you're right to want to read poetry to Leo. I wish I'd done it for you and Danny when you were little. But no one did it for me, so I didn't know how good it was until now.)

(Maybe I should illustrate it with little drawings?)
